Notice they didnt forget to put your name in the ballot... didnt think so ... there is no ballot.. this is a load of..

In your case, they would make a good item for sale in your store John... think of the extra traffic that could bring in .. would help the lul over xmas etc.. no ebay fees .. increased profile etc etc.. business wise i would pay up .. then sell up

Congrats on getting a set John. If there was one person who deserved a set it was you. :D But how dare you even think about burning the set.
I think the ballot was botched because john and i have websites that lift the profile of cards. So they thought they're collectors we'll give them a set.

Perhaps none will come up for sale at all, most of the recipients may be collectors/investors. Unless of course someone got more than one set then they may sell off some to pay for the other.

Well my honest problem is the cash flow, to invest the $2750 at the moment would be hard and that is why I am looking at options.

I Am even looking to go as far that if someone gave me a good enough reason why they wanted the set and I felt was genuine then would serious consider at COST or if they covered the cost of the cards and a nice donation towards the group to run the web site. My main thought would have to be that it is going to someone that will Keep the set for investment and to appreciate the set.

I have mixed feelings about the ballot process I felt it was too sudden and too quick and not enough term and conditions. Being in Sydney it also could of been classfied as a lottery and should of been register as a competition.

I would of preferred that maybe Select produce 400 cards stating you have won the chance to enter the draw. card must be filled in and returned by DATE. place the 400 cards between the two releases this year.

Now wouldnt that of been draw card to sell more product.

Then you could sell the competition chance card (like the brownlow predictors) on eBay. The only problem with it would be if young kids got the cards and couldnt understand paying the $2750 for the set.

I asked what he wanted for Buckey and Tarrant and he said $550. Not prepared to negotiate on price, and would be offering them to someone else at $650. Yeah, whatever.

There you go. All about the money, not the integrity of the hobby. I was also told during the exchange that several other prominent collectors got a set in the ballot. I then sent a nice long email reply to this guy explaining how I felt the whole process was flawed and that I am questioning the integrity of the ballot, as I am beginning to believe there was some picking and choosing going on. Will be interested if he replies. I've a good mind to reveal the number he offered me, and write to ACCC.

I am not suprised that this has occured, the ballot was just a smoke screen to try and cover up their actions. I told Select on the phone yesterday that I knew of cards being offered out earlier and the poor woman on the phone didnt really know what to say.

At the end of the day, unless someone kicks up a fuss the industry will continue in this way. I intend on being that person, not because I didnt "win" a set, but because the system used to select people was so unfair.

We could all take a moral ground and refuse to pay for these cards to make a stand, however, in the end all that means is someone else will end up with them, and as a collector that isnt really what you want.

My other half really wants that Archer card, however I have told her I am not rewarding people for the ways in which they obtained them, and whilst she understands my point, I can tell you, if I don't get her one, she may never forgive me.

Reply to John:

Whilst I too am upset to the way Select have handled this ballot, there is no way you can be certain that the cards wouldnt be sold off.

I think you have a few choices on this if you do not wish to collect them for yourself.

1 - Sell them on ebay like everyone else and make enough profit doing it to continue your work in this industry and help fund the sites etc.

2 - Sell them to members of the group again at a profit (although I suspect for not quite as much) to continue your work etc. You could even sell them at face value plus a donation of x amount to the site or whatever.

3 - Dont pay up and let someone else make money from them, as there would be another ballot, with the same flawed process.

No matter what you do, someone is going to make money from them, it may as well be you, at least the profit that you would make is for the good of the industry (ie running the sites etc) not to further endanger it. Not even I would begrudge you that, I dont think anyone else would either.
