Card Prices - Help

Postby adz2332 » 09 Jul 2007, 14:12

Hey,
Im new to here and also new to card collecting. Im 22 and have only just started reali collecting in the last 6months. Being from Adelaide and a huge Port Power fan, im reali looking to just collect them.

But back in 1997 my Father and I collected a series together wjich i have just found only the other day. Was there any cards in that series of any real value?

The only cards i can see that i would guess would have any value are as follows.
Preimers Perdictor Card Melbourne CC9
Preimers Perdictor Card Western Bulldogs CC16
A James Hird Brownlow Medal Card
And a Glen Archer Medel Card (off the top of my head i cant remember the medal that was awarded lol)

Can any one but a rough price on those 4 cards? or any other cards in the set that i may have and have over looked?
I trust you guys and kno that you guys arent trying to rip me off as a card dealer shop would if i took them there to ask a price...

Any help would be great
Adam

Hey Adz
Welcome to the forum.
The most valuable cards the 1997 series where the Medal signature cards. Each medal winner signed 250 cards. Currently they are going for around $200-$300 each.
1997 was the first year premiership predictors came out. There was only one Predictor every 2 boxes. Making these predictors a lot more valuable then the other years. I would guess they would be about $20-$30 each.
Medal cards are cool looking cards and you can easily $20 for Hird and Archer.

What do others think.

Hi Adam,

Heres what I think:

Glenn Archer Medal Norm Smith (assuming M4 not a signed redemption) approx 10-20. Normally at the low end, I recently paid 10.50 for one but that was the lowest I have seen them sell for. One sold recently for over 15, another unsold Buy It Now 20.00.

James Hird Brownlow Medal Card last one I seen sold for $21.50, think that was a little low though as Hird cards are doing quite well.

Premiers Predictor Card Melbourne CC9 15+ (traditionally Melbourne cards sell for a little less).

Premiers Predictor Card Western Bulldogs CC16 15+ - maybe 20.

I think the Glenn Archer one is definately right as I collect Glenns stuff, I might be a little out on the others though.

The signed redemption cards do very well, average price for one of those would be around 250+.

You can go to Johns site and look under Price Guides, Select 1997 thats always a good start.

Anyone else care to comment - absti?/john?

Agree with all of the above the medal cards signed and unsigned versions are great. If u have a Signature version all the better for u. If u are after some more expensive Port Power Signature cards the top of the range is a Matthew Primus Captain Signature Redemption limited to 50 cards $900 plus anywhere up to $1400 a Tredrea Game Breaker limited 100 i think $250 to $400. A couple of real nice cards worth considering 2001 Shaun Burgoyne Draft pick Signature limited to 770 can get one for around $30 to $50 or even the Port Power 2005 Predictor Premiers set , consists of the Redemption card which u send to select and then receive a Port Power 3 card set worth between$50 to $100. Plenty of other lower priced Power cards from between $5 to $20 also.

Excellent, umm to be honest im interested in the signed Rookie cards, i just bought my first one of Chaplin the other day now waiting for it to arrive, for $18 inc post. Just a question about them, how well is the signature put on the card? Like could it or would it rub off? if put in a protective sleeve over time will it stick to the sleeve and rub off or even smudge?
Also i want to start getting into the high end insert cards, not just the all australian cards. For Port Power that is...
But im not prepared to pay $2000 that that matthew primas card up for sale for!!! lol

I have got auto rookies straight from the pack that have been smudged, so you have to be careful when buying them online, take a very good look at the picture and ask the seller to verify the condition of the signature before you buy/bid on it.

Lots of people list cards with smudged signatures and call the card mint as the card itself is, however, the signature may not be.

The signatures I have taken from packs and stored in sleeves and top loaders are not showing any signs of wear etc, but they are only recently issued cards, so someone else who has an older collection may have a better suggestion.

Yeah u could put them in an individual soft sleeve then hard sleeve(toploader) they look better this way i think then a box. Or a crd folder in an individual soft sleeve then put it in one of the 9 card sleeves.

You need to bae wary asa Carlton said especially the Tradition Draft Rookie Signatures and the Coquest Draft Signatures as the Signatures sometimes have white lines running through them from rubbing on other cards or are smudged. There is a Dean Brogan Hot Prospect card no trouble that i no of with the Signature ltd pretty low cant think of exact number under 400 i think $30 to $50 nice card and a Premiership player.
Always ask as Carlton said if card is mint has perfect corners and perfect Signature if they dont answer or somehow baulk the question dont get it. Also ask how its sent if my cards are not sent in soft sleeves and hrd sleeves as well for signature cards i dont buy.
Does any body have the card for gavin wanganeens 300th game? how much is that card worth?
Adz i usually put them in an individual sleeve for a bit more protection as sometimes the top of the card can come out of the 9 page sleeve. The individual sleeve means it cant move at all and fits nice and snug  . The Wanganeen 300th case card, i wouldnt pay more than $50 for 1, i am sure u could get i for under that. On ebay always check under sports memorabilia then under afl then Port Power as sometimes people sell only under the club rather than single cards.
